  Feast Sweet Potato Volunteers

Just a reminder that the first graders will be making sweet potatoes this Thursday, November 20th at 8:35.  If you are planning on attending this activity please drop me a note to let me know.

Thanksgiving Feast

Hooven’s annual Thanksgiving Feast is this Friday, November 21st.  Please be sure to return your child’s permission slip for the horse and wagon ride as soon as possible.  Also, please help your child remember to dress warm on this day because there will be some feast activities in the outdoors.

Phonics skill

We are practicing magic e words and the soft sounds of c(s) and g(j).  We are also learning singular and plural possessives. We are learning that when the noun ends with an apostrophe –s, it means that the noun owns or possess something.  If the noun ends in –s and names more than one, then the apostrophe comes after the –s.

Math

I am very excited to see how well the students are learning to count and recognize sets of coins.  The students seem to be doing very well at putting the coins in order from greatest amount to least amount before counting.  This week we are also tackling counting on to calculate how much change we should receive from purchasing items.  Please practice this skill at home with your child.

Kung Fu Panda Raffle!

The PTA would like to reward the students who have been working extra hard at returning their homework and striving to make excellent behavior choices everyday.  They will be showing the movie, Kung Fu Panda, in the Hooven gym on Tuesday, November 25th, beginning at 1:00 P.M.  The students will earn an invitation to see the movie.  They can earn their movie invitation by staying on a green light and returning their homework everyday.  Each child has been given 4 invitation tickets.  If they stay on a green light and return their homework everyday, they will get to keep all 4 tickets.  If they do make a bad choice or fail to return their homework they have to pay one ticket for each offense.  If they have at least one ticket left by 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, they will be admitted into the movie and that ticket plus any others they have remaining will be put into the raffle.  At the end of the movie, Mr. Kelly will randomly pick out a raffle ticket and that child will be the new owner of the movie!  If a child loses all 4 tickets on the day of the movie, they will have an alternative assignment in Mr. Kelly’s office.  My hope is that all students will have at least one invitation ticket left on the day of the movie.  It will be a wonderful way to start off the Thanksgiving Break!  I know we can do it!
