Hooven School Newsletter  "A State Recognized School of Distinction”

August, 2008

Welcome back!  We are ready to begin a new and exciting school year.  Please remember, our door is always open.  Don’t hesitate to stop by or give us a call.  Together, we can make a difference!

BUS TRANSPORTATION CHANGE

Bus transportation will no longer be available for students who live in Hooven.  If you have a Hooven address, your child will now be considered a “walker.”  The bus will stop at the corner of Hooven Avenue and Hooven Road but there will be no bus stops in town.

STUDENT SAFETY

We keep a close eye on who is on the school property.  Please help us out by stopping in the school office when you enter the building.  We ask that you DO NOT go directly to a classroom without stopping in to let us know you are here.  If you need to pick up your child, we will call them to the office for you.  Thank you!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please fill out and return the important paperwork that was sent home in your child’s folder.  We need this information as soon as possible.

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

There will be no school on Monday, September 1 due to the Labor Day holiday.  Enjoy the last long weekend of the summer!

SCHOOL HOURS

Hooven School hours are 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  If your child arrives after the 8:30 bell rings, please bring him/her to the office to sign them in.  If the office staff does not know your child came in late, he/she may be counted absent the entire day.

PLEASE CALL US

If your child will be absent for any reason, please let us know.  If a child is not at school, we will make every attempt to notify you to be sure they are safe and accounted for.

DON’T LOSE THAT LUNCH MONEY

Every student in the school district has been assigned a student number.  As your child goes through the cafeteria, they enter that number at the cash register.  For your convenience, you may pay on your child’s account once a week, once a month, or however you choose.  Checks should be payable to “Hooven School.”

SCHOOL PICTURES

Get those smiles ready!  School pictures will be taken on Friday, September 26.  More information and order forms will be coming home soon.

CALLING ALL GIRLS!

Does your daughter like to camp?  Does your daughter like to sing?  Does your daughter like S'mores?  Then maybe she would like Girl Scouts.  Troops are now forming.  Contact Melissa McCabe at 513-367-6046 or 513-367-7819.

STUDENT BANKING PROGRAM

Thanks to Peoples Community Bank, our students have the opportunity to learn about saving money.  Tellers from the bank come to Hooven School every other week to collect deposits from the students.  Watch for information that will be sent home soon.  If your child would like to open a savings account, please return the forms to school or stop by the bank.  Banking dates are listed below.

RECYCLE DUMPSTER

Did you know there is a recycle dumpster at the corner of our parking lot that can be used for your old newspapers, cans, plastic bottles, etc.?   Everyone in our area is welcome to use it.

PLEASE SAVE THESE ITEMS ALL YEAR

We save old cell phones, and used ink cartridges from computer printers, fax machines and copiers.  These items are sent to an organization that sends us a check to be used to purchase items for the children here at Hooven School.

We also save the metal tabs from soft drink cans.  They are sent to Children’s Hospital Ronald McDonald House to help defray the cost of treatment for terminally ill children.

And finally, we save the entire label from Campbell’s products and “Box Tops for Education” that are located on General Mills, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Yoplait, and Old El Paso products.  The PTA receives money that is used to purchase items for the children throughout the school year.
