MEET INFORMATION
What to Bring and What to Do...
What to Bring
-
Gym Bag
- Uniform Singlet and Shorts
-
Sweats
-
Running Shoes
-
Spikes/Throwing Shoes
- Weather appropriate gear -
Check the forecast and be prepared! If it is going to be cold, bring
LOTS of layers. If it is going to rain, bring raingear. It
is better to be over prepared than underprepared!
Reminders
- Pick up a meet sheet and bring
it to the meet. This has all the info you need to know about the meet -- bus schedule, what you are
running, the order of events, starting times, etc.
- Be on the bus on time! Don't make us wait for you!
- Know the order of events for
the meet (this is for you Lindsey Becker) so that you know when your
event is coming up.
- Check in with the clerk for
ALL of your events. They are usually located in the spur of the track near the starting line of the 100m
Dash. Be sure to check in well ahead of time (30 minutes).
- No jewelry is allowed during competition. Don't get DQed!
- If you are in a relay, be sure
you have a baton and markers BEFORE going to check in and
get warmed up.
- Allow plenty of time (30 - 45
minutes) to warm up for your event. A proper warm up leads to a
more prepared and focused athlete who will have better performances and
fewer injuries.
Talk to your event coach about the right way to warm up.
- Be sure you are on time to
your event. Don't be that person who misses their event!
- Remember that a false start = a DQ.
- Keep your sweats on if you
are between events. Keep those muscles warm and recognize that you'll need to warm up again for your
next
event.
- If you are doing 2 events at
once inform the officials running the events. Running events
take precedent over field events BUT get as many attempts in as you
can before leaving for your running event
(you won't need to
leave until the event before yours is being
run).
- Be positive and supportive of
your teammates. If you aren't doing anything, go watch a field event and cheer them on.
- Be focused on the meet and
your preparation. Know what is going on around you and know how your teammates and the
team are doing.
Don't allow yourself to get distracted by boyfriends
or girlfriends.
- All athletes are expected to
remain at the meet until it is over. Your teammates will
appreciate
your support and you might be needed to run
if someone is injured. Cool
down laps after the meet should
be completed as a TEAM. If you are riding home with
your parents be sure to inform the
coach who is in charge of the bus. (You may not
ride home
with boyfriends/girlfriends or someone else's parents.)
- Remember that you are
representing your fellow teammates, coaches, school, and
community.
ALWAYS be respectful towards
competitors, coaches, officials, fans, and other schools.
Disrespect will NOT be tolerated.
- If you have any questions, be sure to ask a coach or official.
- Above all else, try your hardest and COMPETE LIKE A CHAMPION!
