Standout Athletes
- Female
Athletes
Jennifer Kraus (Callihan) - 1981 - Jennifer was the
first female athlete to qualify for State competition. She was a
conference champion in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meter relay
three consective years. She was a State qualifier in the 100 meter dash
for 2 years.
Julie Bernecker (Nolan) - 1986 - She set 3 school
records and currently holds two of them. Julie teaches at
Harrison and was the girl's head coach during the 1990's.
Karen Grimm (McGrinder) - 1987 - Karen was the first
female athlete in school history to make All Cincinnati. Karen was
named MVP in 1985,86, & 87. In 1986 and 1987, Karen was the Conference
Athlete of the Year. She still holds 5 school records.
Miranda Back - 1997 - Miranda placed
third
at State in the long jump in 1997 and currently holds the school record
in that event.
Amy
Mobley - 1999 - Amy qualified for the
State meet three times and holds school records in the shot
put and discus.
- Donna
Castelli - 2006 - Donna was a two time Wilson A. Law team MVP and held 3
school records. She can lay legitimate claim to being the fastest
female athlete in the history of Harrison High School.
Brittany Wilson-Farley - 2009 -
Brittany nearly packed an entire career into her brief time at Harrison.
After transferring to the district during her senior year, Brittany won
the 2009 Division I State Championship in the shot put by over 2 feet.
Her State Meet performance was the best in all divisions.
Brittany's personal best of 45' 5" shattered the Harrison school record
and is also the 2nd best mark in the history of Cincinnati track and
field. Her other senior season accomplishments include the
OATCCC State Indoor Championship in the shot put, FAVC Field Athlete of
the Year, destroying the FAVC meet record in the shot put, the Wilson A.
Law Team MVP, District Championships in both the shot put and discus,
and a Regional Championship in the shot put.
- Male
Athletes
Tex Stout - 1954 - Tex went to the State finals in the 440 yard dash. He held 12 consecutive victories in the
440 yard dash from 1953-1954. Tex held the school record for 18 years
before it was broken.
- Jim Kater - 1954 - Jim held school
records in the long jump and the high jump for many years.
- Don Morris - 1967 - He set the school's
shot put record in 1963 and the discus in 1966. The shot put
record stood for over 30 years, until his son Brady Morris broke it in
1999. He was a two time District qualifier in both the shot put and discus.
- Jerry Dean - 1972 - Jerry placed second
at the State meet in the long jump with a jump of 21'10". He
also holds 3 school records.
- Paul Nolan - 1979 - Paul placed second by
just a few inches at the State meet in 1979 in the 800 meter dash.
Paul is a teacher at Harrison and was coach during some of the
most successful years of the track & field program.
- Steve Barnes - 1986 - Steve held the school
record in the 1600 meters for 10 years, but at the collegiate
level was the All Ohio 1,000 meter Indoor Champion while
competing at The Ohio State University in cross country and track and
field. Steve teaches at Harrison and coached Ernie Ziegler to
his state championships in the 1990's.
- Ernie Ziegler - 1997 - Ernie is the most decorated athlete in the history of the high school. He was the State
Champion in the 3200 meter run in 1996 and 1997. He also won
the State Cross Country Championship in 1997. He is 1 of only 7
people/teams from Harrison to win a state championship and the only
athlete to do it more than once. Ernie holds 6 school
records and was named Conference Athlete of the Year in 1997.
He earned an athletic scholarship to Miami University.
- Brady Morris 1999 - Brady placed second
at the State meet in 1998 in the shot put. He was a two time qualifier
at State. Brady broke his father's school record that stood for over 30
years. He earned a track athletic scholarship to the University of
Cincinnati.
- Ryan Flynn - 2004 - Ryan placed fourth at
the State meet in 2004 in the shot put. He was named FAVC Most Valuable
Field Events performer in 2004, was a two time winner of the Wilson A.
Law team MVP award, and currently holds the school record in the shot
put. Ryan earned a track athletic scholarship to the University of
Cincinnati.
- Curt Weidner - 2006
- Curt was the first hurdler from Harrison to ever qualify for the
State meet and only the second sprinter (first in over 50 years) to
accomplish that feat. On his way to State, Curt established
the school record in the 110 meter hurdles and was the FAVC and
District Champion in both hurdle events.
Chris Littleton - 2007-
Chris leaves Harrison as one of the most accomplished athletes in the
school's history. Chris was the 2007 Division I State Champion in
the discus where he recorded the 2nd best discus mark in Cincinnati
history. He was also the Cincinnati Enquirer track athlete of the
year. During his junior year, Chris placed 8th in both the
shot put and the discus at the State meet. He is the only male
track
athlete to ever qualify for the State meet 3 straight years.
Overall, Chris qualified for state 5 times, was a 7 time Regional
qualifier, a 2 time District champion, earned the FAVC Most Valuable
Field Events Performer twice, was the winner of the Wilson A. Law team
MVP award for three years, and currently holds the school and FAVC
discus record.
