This year at Harrison High School, many
new classes were added. However, one stood out: Rock and Roll Lab Band.
Karl Robinson, the music department head at Harrison, had convinced the
school board to fund a revolutionary new idea: a class teaching students
to play rock-style music and to perform it.
Since rock is still looked down on as "unrefined" or "meritless" by some music teachers, the project has never been tried before- Rock Bands have been an after-school things before, but never a full-year class for school credit and a grade. Robinson hopes to make Rock Band a common class in school like a Symphonic/Orchestral band. And, of course, he wants to just rock out.
