All requested testing for students (K-12) will take place in September and May. District-wide testing for grade 3 will take place in February. Reminder to parents, if you would like to request that your child be tested for possible gifted identification, you need to let your principal know by September 1, 2010 for September testing and by April 1, 2011 for May testing. The district will test all students in grades 3, but any other gifted identification testing is only possible through parent or teacher request. Testing for gifted identification will take place in October and May. Students take the state approved tests during the school day (tests take 3-5 hours).
Prior to requesting this testing, please refer to the district’s website at
www.southwestschools.org and click on the “Gifted” link (in the green box on the
left side of the homepage). You will find information about gifted students,
resources and recommendations.
Twice each school year, all school districts are required by The Ohio Revised
Code and The Ohio Department of Education to offer gifted identification
testing. The next time for testing will be in May. Law requires testing for
gifted identification twice each year, but does not require that districts serve
all students who are identified. Statistically, less than 3% of all students
tested for gifted receive the gifted label.
Southwest offers a variety of gifted services for identified students in grades
5-12.
