Students will take the STAR test (on the computer) which will determine their reading level.  It is a series of sentences with missing words, students choose from multiple choice answers.  At library each Wednesday, your child will check out book(s) in their Accelerated Reader (AR) level.  The AR book should have a colored AR book sticker on the outside of the book and an AR level sticker on the inside of the book.  The AR book(s) should be practiced at home, but the AR book(s) should be kept in their backpack so students can have the book(s) at school to practice.  When your child is ready he/she will need to take an AR test on the book.  An AR test is on the computer, it consists of 5 or 10 multiple choice questions about the book.  For more information about AR click here.  Your child will need to sign up for an AR test on a sign up notebook by the computers.  Students will take tests in the morning during morning work.   I will let you know when your child will begin AR.  Your child will be expected to take 1 AR test a week.  We go to library on Wednesdays, so I count the week from Wednesday to Wednesday.  Reading with and to your child is so important.  It's important to ask questions about the stories, to make sure your child is comprehending what is read.
